Designing a renewable heating system to support high ceilings

As part of the renovation of their Victorian terrace in Hackney, the homeowners wanted to move away from traditional heating and adopt a more sustainable, future-ready solution. Having already invested in solar PV, they were looking to integrate an air source heat pump to reduce running costs and carbon emissions.

A key challenge was the property’s striking double-height kitchen space. The increased volume and exposed wall areas required a heating system capable of delivering consistent comfort and sufficient heat output without compromising the architectural design.

Innovative Wall Heating to boost Performance

Our Solution

To create an efficient, low-carbon heating system tailored to the property, we designed and installed:

  • Underfloor heating throughout the home to provide gentle, even radiant warmth.
  • Wall heating within key areas to supplement heat output and ensure comfortable temperatures in the double-height kitchen space.
  • An air source heat pump to provide highly efficient heating and domestic hot water from a single renewable energy source.
  • Simple smart controls, allowing the homeowners to easily manage comfort levels throughout the property.

The combination of underfloor and wall heating maximised the available radiant surface area, enabling the heat pump to operate at low water temperatures for improved efficiency while maintaining excellent comfort throughout the home.
